Alienware has always been regarded as a particularly prestigious brand of gaming laptops. Even though the brand has consistently boasted top-of-the-line specifications and a high-end design, its pricing is in the stratosphere. Therefore, the old m15 has been in need of a design refresh for quite some time now, and it has finally received one.

The new Legend industrial design language was introduced to the m15 at CES 2019. As Alienware’s sleekest gaming laptop to date, the m15 R2 is a great example of how a laptop can look contemporary and futuristic at the same time. An overview of the specifications of this laptop is given below: Intel Core i7-9750H (2.60GHz, 12MB L3 cache), 15.6-inch 1,920 x 1,080-pixel 144Hz display with Tobii Eye Tracking, 16GB DDR4-2666 dual-channel RAM, NVIDIA GeForce RTX 2070 Max-Q, 512GB PCIe M.2 SSD, 360.5 x 276 x 20.5mm, 76Wh battery, 2.16

The laptop costs S$4,498 – considerably more than other gaming laptops with similar specifications. It should be noted that we are talking about Alienware here, so you are really paying for the name and the reputation. Here is a closer look at what this laptop has to offer.

However, the old M15 has been in need of a design refresh for quite some time now, and it has now been given one. In May, Alienware introduced its new Legend industrial design language for the m15 at CES 2019. Despite its sleek design, the Alienware m15 R2 manages to look both contemporary and futuristic at the same time.

Alienware’s M15 R7 is an impressive machine. In spite of the fact that you are sacrificing a more luxurious form factor and gaining a set of fans similar to a stadium, Alienware’s latest mid-range notebook posts impressive numbers, and the display appears to be in great condition. There is one thing you need to keep in mind, though: this is not a machine you will want to carry around in your backpack any time soon.

With its plastic body and heavier profile, the Alienware M15 R7 retains the same design language as the previous generation. Due to Dell’s emphasis on component value, you do lose some of the more durable build qualities of the X-range. The Alienware x14, for example, offers a luxury aluminium and magnesium chassis but drops your power level significantly. In other words, the R7 does not feel quite as solid as these more premium devices, but if you are not planning to take it anywhere with you, you will appreciate the solid weight.

Having to sacrifice a few build pegs to bring the best Alienware laptops to a reasonable price does not worry me; this is a luxury brand and I am willing to make that sacrifice. Although they are relatively inexpensive for Alienware, these are certainly not budget-friendly systems. Although the Asus TUF Dash F15 rarely costs as much as the M15 R7, and features a more metal chassis, the plastic design does feel a bit cheap when compared with other products of its kind. There is a significant amount of screen wobble and flexing to be found here, although the hinge itself appears to be durable.

Among the current range of Alienware computers, the M15 R7 represents the best value for money if you are familiar with the brand’s expert engineering and unique aesthetics. In addition, we recommend anyone interested in the latest 12th generation Intel processors and Nvidia’s latest GPUs check out the seriously impressive performance on offer here – this R7 is capable of drawing the most out of these components. It is still not for everyone since the M15 R7 comes in at over $2,000 / £2,000 in our configuration.
